Series: The Archival Body
Title: What I Can Grip at This Political and Crisis Moment? Maybe Only My Other Hand
Year: 2020
Medium: sculpture | resin, silicone, silicone pigment, acrylic stand
Dimension: approx. 7¼ x 5⅞ x 2½ in (acrylic stand: 5 x 5 x 4 in)
This is a sculpture of my hands gripped together and captured in silicone and then sealed in clear resin. I preserve the fear and feelings of violation by making life-sized sculptures.
As part of The Archival Body series, this work continues to examine the fragility of human beings in the face of disease, racism, and violence and how these change our physical perceptions of our bodies. I pose an open-ended debate and elicit reflections within oneself amid the hope, chaos, and violence we have witnessed in 2020 by creating sculptures that reveal our underlying anxieties and conditions.
