Title: Plastic Injection Molding- Green Bamboo
Year: 2016
Medium: installation | plastic containers and 3‐channel video
Dimension: variable-approx. 96 x 58 x 68 in (sculpture), 9 min 45 sec (video)
After documenting the manufacturing process at a family‐run, plastic‐injection‐molding factory in Changhua, Taiwan, I purchased the 3,000 green containers manufactured during my video shooting and compose them into an installation—a terrain of artificial green bamboo, which is named by the manufacturer when he saw my final installation. As a collaboration with a local manufacturer, this project reflects an alternative portrait of sunset industries in Taiwan whose profits are declining due to competition with China’s economy.
