60 Gram Is Non Does | 2014

58” x 58” x 90” | Sculpture | Metal, feeding bags, PVC tubes, air pump, fittings, timer

By combining the shapes of a chandelier and organ pipes (symbols of luxury and spirituality) with those of disposable medical supplies, I compose a sarcastic mechanical contraption that portrays a human being’s needs during an emergency. The title of this piece was extracted from another conversation with a doctor where she said “60 gray is a non-dose,” which suggests a standard dose of medication that can also be damaging even though generally approved.
